They say it takes a village to raise a child, and if that’s the case then the Schenectady community is certainly up to the task.
The Schenectady Day Nursery is celebrating a season of giving, thanks to the incredible generosity of local organizations and community members who have stepped up to support the children and families served by the nursery. These contributions are making an immediate and meaningful impact, ensuring that the youngest members of our community have the resources and support they need to thrive.
St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish and St. John the Evangelist Church
In keeping with what has become a much-appreciated annual tradition, St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish donated toys and outfits for the children who attend the Schenectady Day Nursery. This year St. John’s Church in Schenectady also contributed undergarments, socks and other items to keep the children warm during the colder months. These essential items are vital for families navigating the harsh upstate New York winters.
“We’re deeply grateful for the kindness of these churches,” said Diane Fisher, Executive Director of the Schenectady Day Nursery. “These gifts ensure our children can stay warm and healthy as they walk to school or play outdoors.”
MVP Health Care
MVP Health Care also joined the effort by organizing a coat drive, providing warm outerwear for the children. Many of the children have already begun wearing their new coats, proudly arriving at school bundled up and ready to learn.
“It’s heartwarming to see the joy on their faces,” said Fisher. “These coats are not just a practical necessity; they’re a source of pride and confidence for our kids.”
The staff at MVP Health Care also participated in an outdoor clean-up day to help the nursery’s “Miss Jane’s Best of Friends Playground” shine for its little patrons.
M&T Bank
In addition to these in-kind donations, M&T Bank recently made a generous contribution of $5,000 to support the nursery’s general operations. This financial support is critical for sustaining the high-quality childcare and early education programs that families rely on every day.
“This donation from M&T Bank is a tremendous help as we continue to provide a nurturing and enriching environment for the children in our care,” said Fisher. “Operating support ensures we can maintain our facilities, provide nutritious meals, and invest in educational materials.”
A Community United
The Schenectady Day Nursery has long been a cornerstone of the community, offering affordable, high-quality childcare to working families. These recent acts of generosity highlight the power of community collaboration and the profound impact it has on the lives of children.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have such dedicated partners in our mission to support local families,” Fisher added. “Every donation, whether it’s a warm coat or financial support, helps us create a brighter future for the children we serve.”
As the winter season continues, the Schenectady Day Nursery extends its heartfelt thanks to all who have contributed. To learn more about the nursery’s work or to make a donation, please visit https://schenectadydaynursery.org or contact Diane Fisher at (518) 374-6319.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Schenectady Day Nursery paid tribute to a longtime supporter by dedicating a playground to her. The nursery dedicated the playground to the late Jane Golub, who was involved with the nursery since 1992 and served on its board until her death in 2019.
